I woke up before the sun had fully made its way above the high mountains that surround my home. I glanced outside expecting a blanket of white snow, but to my surprise only a small amount of frost covered the ground. The light breeze smelled of fresh rain. Spring had finally arrived to the mountains. Almost automatically, my mood seemed to lighten. Spring in the mountains is nearly indescribable. The forest are busting with new energy. The silence of the winter is gone and life begins again.
Living in a place like this its hard not to notice the cycles that exist in our world. It makes it easy to see why some do not realize how fragile life is. You have to see it. Live it. I feel fortunate to have been raised in such a magnificent display of nature. It creates a feeling that you are connected to something bigger than yourself. A feeling of oneness.
One thing I have learned about life is nothing compares to the feeling you get when you become one with the world around you. When you start to notice that you and everything around is one of the same you start to see the world in a whole new light. You become a center for love and interconnections. Your life seems to flow by rather than drag on.
Buddhism teaches that all life is interrelated. Through the concept of "dependent origination," it holds that nothing exists in isolation, independent of other life. The Japanese term for dependent origination is engi, literally "arising in relation." In other words, all beings and phenomena exist or occur only because of their relationship with other beings or phenomena. Everything in the world comes into existence in response to causes and conditions. Nothing can exist in absolute independence of other things or arise of its own accord.
On a deeper level, we are connected and related not just to those physically close to us, but to every living being. If we can realize this, feelings of loneliness and isolation, which cause so much suffering, begin to vanish, as we realize that we are part of a dynamic, mutually interconnected whole. Its this illusion of separation that holds as back a spices. At the same time separation is a woven into the very fabric of this universe. Separation exist only as a teacher. We would not recognize what oneness was like if we did not first learn what it wasn't like.
The idea and experience of Oneness has played a major role in our collective consciousness. Science tells us that we reside in a unified field of energy called the universe. Every major religion, spiritual path, and wisdom tradition has some version of Oneness as its centerpiece. It is broadly understood that the universe divides, while also remaining interconnected.
As we awaken, we begin to bridge separation consciousness with life beyond it.
Experiencing the Feeling of "Oneness"
Awakening as an ongoing process, while the term enlightenment points to an end point of this process when spiritual awakening becomes fully realized as a pervasive and abiding experience. When you begin to acknowledge the small details of the world around you, you began the awaking process.
"The spirit of man is inseparable from the Infinite, and can be satisfied with nothing less than the Infinite." James Allen
Awakening can strip a person of previous beliefs, feelings and life views causing them to see the world and themselves in a whole new light. Being a positive experience towards the end of the awakening, at first the awakening can be quite disruptive, shocking and upsetting to a person and their life because it forces them to take a deeper a look at themselves, face their fears, re-live any bad experiences and memories and forces them to see things in a way that they previously never thought. The awakening can be very confusing and so powerful that the person may question themselves and even their sanity due to the symptoms that occur during the awakening.

A spiritual awakening is often triggered by something experienced which had a deep effect in the mind of the person going through the awakening but an awakening can also happen spontaneously too. A trigger can be the loss of a loved one, a near death experience, a spiritual experience or some other event or situation that had a profound effect on the person going through the awakening. Most spiritual awakenings are caused through some sort of shock event or experience that had a deep effect on the person’s soul. The spiritual awakening now begins brought on either through a trigger event or spontaneously.
For me process started when I became pregnant with my daughter. It was and sometimes still is a hard process. Most people live a whole life of denial never opening closed doors, and never reopening old memory's in attempt to preserve this 'false idea' that they are really okay. Deep down they are screaming for self love. It takes a huge amount of courage for someone to awaken to their true nature. That's why in most cases you have to hit rock bottom before you are able to look at yourself and decide its time for a change. Most of use don't experience awaking until we are at the lowest of the low and are forced to look within ourselves in order to repair the damage.
In truth its not as 'wonderful' as many claim, its hard. On one day you will be full of bliss the next you wonder "what the hell is this?" In time it becomes worth every bit of the struggle. In time you will find yourself experiencing more of the 'aw' in life and less of the 'uh'. You will find yourself staring out the window into a world you better understand and like I said nothing beats that feeling, nothing.
